Avoidence of Perfection

Hi, I'm Larry McAllister II (AKA LARRYTRON). I am an artist, graphic designer, photographer and project manager/art director.

This is my scrap book of inspiration. I love visual culture. Everything from graphic design and typography, to tattoos, to graffiti, to photography... clothes, cars, architecture, nature... all of it is inspiring.

    Characters Welcome

New Post: Characters Welcome #LarryShoots #Photography

Feels good to finally be able to share some work I shot back in the summer. In June, I had the opportunity to work with my very talented friend and New Jersey based rapper, James McNamara, better known as Dirty Mac. He had been working on his sophomore album, Service With A Style, and decided to reach out to me to do some photo work for the album. It would be the first time we really got to work…

Dirty Mac - Service With A Style

Back in June, I had the opportunity to work with my very talented friend, Dirty Mac. We set out to do some photography for his sophomore album, Service With A Style.

We worked in a restaurant well before opening and shot for about 2 hours before calling it quits. The interior lighting and light from the windows of the restaurant actually worked really well for providing a great feel and I really didn’t need to worry about setting up or using my own lights.

These are a few of my favorite shots from the shoot (including the shot that ended up being the album cover).

Decided to go back through and edit more of the photos from the workshop I went to back in December.

Also started using Lightroom 5 for my editing workflow and I am definitely digging it. Playing around with stacking some of Little Lusker’s Lightroom Presets, I definitely found some good ways to edit the different photos I took.

Definitely looking for some feedback on the editing and shots, so feel free to give me some.

    More photos to come.

Short new post about my focus for 2014. #ShootForTheStars #LarryShoots #Photography

2014: Shoot for the Stars on Flickr.

2013 was a less than stellar shooting year for me. I didn’t pick up my camera as much as I wanted to, I didn’t try too many new things, and up until the last few months, I really hadn’t done much work I was proud of.

Now, I’m not one for resolutions or anything like that, but I do love giving myself a mission.

In 2014 I am going to shoot more and better photos. I am going to challenge myself to shoot subjects I’m not comfortable with. I am going to experiment as much as possible and learn whatever I can to be a better photographer.

Those missions in mind, I decided to act on some thoughts of what my first photos of 2014 could be. I have really enjoyed looking up at the night sky where I am living these days. It’s so refreshing to actually be able to see stars. Combine this joy with the interest I have in photography, and it was an obvious next step.

After ringing in the new year with friends, I decided to take advantage of the clear night skies and take a shot at doing some nighttime sky photography. It was cold and every ten to thirty second exposure felt like an eternity, but I am definitely pleased with the results.

I know things are off, I know there are ways for me to shoot this better, and I know this is nowhere near the most beautiful starry sky people have ever seen… but it’s my first try at it. I’m going to shoot more of these, I’m going to experiment, and I’m going to get better.

For me, 2014 is about getting back in the lab, rediscovering endless wonders, experimenting with things I haven’t tried before, taking risks, and hopefully doing some of the best work of my life.

I’m ready to shoot for the stars in 2014.

    Trying Something Nu(de)

So I recently had an opportunity to attend an erotic photography and glamour workshop and do some shooting I never really do. I’m going to share some of the results on my Flickr, let me know what you think.

From a recent shoot with Donovan. It was definitely a good shoot for testing out my new camera and lens. It also feels really good to be shooting and editing again.
