Avoidence of Perfection

Hi, I'm Larry McAllister II (AKA LARRYTRON). I am an artist, graphic designer, photographer and project manager/art director.

This is my scrap book of inspiration. I love visual culture. Everything from graphic design and typography, to tattoos, to graffiti, to photography... clothes, cars, architecture, nature... all of it is inspiring.

Some of the images contained here belong to me and are tagged as such, all other work is credited whenever possible or has active click-through links to get to the original posting.

    Asya, a set on Flickr.

Decided to go back through and edit more of the photos from the workshop I went to back in December.

Also started using Lightroom 5 for my editing workflow and I am definitely digging it. Playing around with stacking some of Little Lusker’s Lightroom Presets, I definitely found some good ways to edit the different photos I took.

Definitely looking for some feedback on the editing and shots, so feel free to give me some.

    More photos to come.

    Model: Asya (MM565522)

Shot with the Nikon D600 with Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF.

Edited in Adobe Lightroom 5 using LittleLusker presets.

Shot on January 17, 2014 at the Lyrical Graffiti show at The Old Bay in New Brunswick, NJ.

This served as a little bit of a test of the new Rode VideoMic GO which I purchased over the holidays. I have to be honest, I am very surprised by how well it performed. I still have some other scenarios that I will need to test it in, but right now I know it is good for small show setups.

2014: Shoot for the Stars on Flickr.

2013 was a less than stellar shooting year for me. I didn’t pick up my camera as much as I wanted to, I didn’t try too many new things, and up until the last few months, I really hadn’t done much work I was proud of.

Now, I’m not one for resolutions or anything like that, but I do love giving myself a mission.

In 2014 I am going to shoot more and better photos. I am going to challenge myself to shoot subjects I’m not comfortable with. I am going to experiment as much as possible and learn whatever I can to be a better photographer.

Those missions in mind, I decided to act on some thoughts of what my first photos of 2014 could be. I have really enjoyed looking up at the night sky where I am living these days. It’s so refreshing to actually be able to see stars. Combine this joy with the interest I have in photography, and it was an obvious next step.

After ringing in the new year with friends, I decided to take advantage of the clear night skies and take a shot at doing some nighttime sky photography. It was cold and every ten to thirty second exposure felt like an eternity, but I am definitely pleased with the results.

I know things are off, I know there are ways for me to shoot this better, and I know this is nowhere near the most beautiful starry sky people have ever seen… but it’s my first try at it. I’m going to shoot more of these, I’m going to experiment, and I’m going to get better.

For me, 2014 is about getting back in the lab, rediscovering endless wonders, experimenting with things I haven’t tried before, taking risks, and hopefully doing some of the best work of my life.

I’m ready to shoot for the stars in 2014.

Shot with the Nikon D600 with Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF.

Been playing with this wireless adapter to transfer from my #Nikon #D600 to #iOS. Some issues, but mostly awesome.

From a recent shoot with Donovan. It was definitely a good shoot for testing out my new camera and lens. It also feels really good to be shooting and editing again.

    Edited with Adobe Photoshop CC.

Is this heaven? So many lovely lenses. #Drool #Nikkor #Nikon (at PhotoPlus Expo)

    Daphne on Flickr.

I finally started to go through some of my film from the Alternative Breaks trip to the Gesundheit! Institute I took back in march. It was a really interesting trip and I met a lot of really cool people. I’m going to share some of the shots I got here on Flickr.

Pictured here is Daphne, an artist and really fun person. During the entire trip she had a great attitude and quickly became one of my favorites on the trip. She has a great sense of humor and had some really great insights to provide about the work we were doing on our trip.

    Shot with 35mm Fujicolor Superia X-Tra 800 using my Nikon N70 with a Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D.
